Choosing a Wig
What style is right for me?
If you are buying a wig for the first time, choose a length, texture (straight, wavy or curly) and style which closely resemble your current hairstyle. That way you will “look like yourself” and most people will not even realise you are wearing a wig! When you are ready for something different, try longer or shorter versions of similar styles or a subtle change of colour, highlight or even roots for a more natural look.
Unless of course your aim is to achieve something totally different!
FACE SHAPE GUIDE
Certain facial shapes are flattered by certain styles. Whether you stick to a style that you are used to or choose to go for a completely new look, taking your face shape into consideration will help you to achieve the best result.
The following guide will help you to determine your face shape and the type of styles that will compliment it best.
We also list the “ideal face shapes” suited to each wig in their individual descriptions and by clicking a face shape you will see our suggestions.
A way of knowing your face shape is to draw the outline of your face on a mirror with lipstick or a non-permanent marker.
Now compare your face shape in the table below and click on a matching head shape to see our suggestion of wigs that you could wear:
Personalising your wig
In some cases your wig can be worn straight out of the box! Minor adjustments such as trimming the fringe, thinning or minimal shaping by a professional hair stylist while wearing your wig will ensure that it suits your features. Remember to always seal the ends of synthetic wig fibres with conditioning oil straight after cutting.
The degree to which a wig can be styled using hair products, hairdryers, curling tongs and straightening irons depends on the type of hair your wig is made of – see our Wig Care section.
