| What is the difference between cap types? |
There are 5 main types of cap construction
All our wigs have velcro tabs or pull straps which allow for the wig to be adjusted, tightened or loosened, to fit. They also have flexible ear tabs to ensure the wig is properly positioned and contoured to your face, and provide full coverage of hair in front of the ear.
Some styles combine 2 or more types of construction in the cap, for example a monofilament top with a lace front.
Also known as standard, classic or wefted caps, this design of cap has evolved to offer a high level of comfort at affordable prices.
Our traditional cap construction wigs combine a closed flower net lace top for durability, built-in volume and scalp coverage with an open wefted body which makes the wig lightweight and cool to wear. The wefts are layers of synthetic hair machine-sewn to thin strips of cotton-based material.
The traditional cap wigs we offer at Simply Wigs differ from cheaper and older cap design which are constructed on a solid base and are hot and uncomfortable to wear.
Open cap wigs are also known as “capless” wigs because of their light weight and airy, cool feel. The entire cap is constructed from open wefting and results in a wig that has maximum stretch, flexibility and ventilation for a secure and comfortable fit that conforms to the shape of your head.
These styles are now probably the most common and affordable, and being lighter and cooler than traditional cap wigs, offer many benefits for the first-time wig wearer!
Monofilament caps feature an inset of transparent micro-mesh sewn in at the crown which gives the illusion of scalp/skin to give a very natural look. Individual strands of synthetic or human hair are hand-tied into the mesh so that the hair appears to be growing out of a real scalp and can be brushed in any direction and more sharply parted on either side of the head than with a conventional wefted cap wig. Originally developed for women who had undergone major hair loss, for comfort and a natural scalp appearance, monofilament wigs are sometimes referred to as "medical wigs".
Generally, mono-top wigs are recognised as a higher quality wig product, and are more expensive than standard wefted cap wigs.
Lesser expensive “Mono-Part” wigs have a thinner strip of monofilament mesh sewn in just at the left, right, or at the centre part line limiting the position of the parting.
Lace Front Cap
Lace Front wigs are designed to give the most natural looking hairline and allow the hair to be worn away from the face.
This cap is delicate and requires more care than the other options. It is more expensive than standard caps.
While some wearers like to use tape and adhesive to secure the front of this type of wig, this is not necessary for the brands we supply.
Hand Tied Cap
The hand-tied cap was specifically designed for people experiencing hair loss. It maximizes comfort, especially for the sensitive scalp. Each hair is hand-tied to the cap, which is made from a mesh-based material. This feature allows you to brush the hair in any direction and creates the illusion of natural hair growth where you part it.This cap is the most ventilated and lightest weight model.
